There are many myths and misconceptions about the motor, synthetic and recycled oils. The following are such common myths and misinformation:

1. All the oil additives are similar- This is a myth as different additives contain different compounds that affect the engine's functioning differently.

2. Dark motor oil warrants a change- This is not usually the case as you can't diagnose the lifespan of motor oil through appearance. Other secondary factors might also influence the color change.

3. Thicker oil is better- The choice of your motor oil should be influenced by the viscosity weight recommendation from your manufacturer.

4. You can't switch back after using synthetic oil- A back and forth switch from conventional to synthetic oil, or vice versa, does not affect your engine.

5. The designation "W" in oil packaging is an indicator for weight- This is one of the most common myths; the letter 'W' stands for weight while the corresponding number indicates the oil's viscosity.
